Buying a vacuum cleaner is not always a clear experience. The countless available options can be confusing. You can buy a popular Dyson model for nearly $1,000—or $50. Finally, are high-priced vacuum cleaners much better than low- and medium-priced vacuum cleaners? It all depends.

ZDNet's review of the best vacuum cleaners provides you with a range of models and prices to keep your home's floors and interiors clean and dust-free.

Type: Lightweight Stick Vacuum Cleaner | Power: 520W | Weight: 3.79 lbs | Features: No bag, corded, standard filter, with gap tool, one year warranty

For a lightweight everyday vacuum cleaner, Bissell's 2033M is a good choice. Since it weighs less than 4 pounds, it is easy to clean at home. Even in the smallest space, it can be easily stored. You can use the stick vacuum cleaner on bare floors, carpets, rugs, upholstery, and any other place you can think of. It can be broken down into three types of vacuum cleaners: stick vacuum cleaners, manual vacuum cleaners and stair vacuum cleaners. Add the gap tool, you can reach every corner and gap effortlessly.

It weighs less than 4 pounds and is very light

No bag, no need to buy any filter or bag

Type: Canister Vacuum Cleaner with Power Cord | Power: 1200W | Weight: 11.4 lbs | Features: To clean bare floors and carpets, need a bag, six settings, seven-year warranty on motor/housing, one-year warranty on parts and labor

Miele is made in Germany, and the company has been producing powerful and reliable vacuum cleaners for many years. C1 is on the traditional side-it requires a vacuum bag and does not have gorgeous features such as LED displays or transparent parts. However, the suction power of the vacuum is one of the best. When you vacuum a deep pile carpet, it may be too much, but you can adjust the intensity by turning the six-speed rotary dial. You will find that Miele works well on carpets, bare floors and wooden floors. The head is equipped with rubber wheels and a metal bottom plate to prevent scratches on the floor.

1200W powerful suction power

It comes with a dust brush, upholstery and crevice tools

Strong suction will make it difficult for the head to move on the carpet

Type: Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner | Power: 960W | Weight: 10 lbs | Features: Five height adjustments, 4.1 liter capacity, 25 feet of power cord, 7 feet of overhead cleaning, one year limited manufacturer's warranty

Eureka's upright bagless vacuum cleaner makes cleaning floors and carpets effortless. The most important thing is that you don’t have to stop often to empty the jar-the extra-large jar can hold more than four liters of dirt. It is easy to clean the jar. No vacuum bag is required. All you need is to rinse it with warm water and let it air dry. Eureka includes three accessories for special cleaning. They are just right for vacuum cleaners, so you don’t need to worry about misplacement when you need them most.

Contains crevice tools, dusting brushes and upholstery tools and stores them on the vacuum cleaner

A large tank can hold more than 4L of debris

The handle can be adjusted to five heights

Nozzle telescope up to 7 feet for overhead cleaning

More suitable for hard floors than carpet

Some customers complain about how loud the model is

Type: Lightweight Stick/Handheld Vacuum Cleaner | Power: 125,000rpm to generate 185 watts | Weight: 6.68 lbs | Features: cordless, bagless, up to 60 minutes of running time, filtering and trapping 99.99% of particles

Dyson V11 is by far the smartest and most powerful cordless vacuum cleaner. This is a good choice for pet families who need extra suction to clean their pet's hair. According to Dyson, its suction power is twice that of other cordless vacuum cleaners, and the suction power is 20% higher than the previous Cyclone V10 vacuum cleaner model. It includes a Dynamic Load Sensor (DLS) system that can automatically sense the surface to change the motor speed, depending on whether you are cleaning bare floors or carpets. Although it can automatically handle most cleaning tasks, you can control the suction power by selecting automatic, enhanced, and energy-saving modes.

The most powerful suction power of all cordless vacuum cleaners

High-torque cleaning head can deeply clean the thickest carpet

Simple push-button processing of tank fragments

Type: Vertical Corded Vacuum Cleaner | Power: 1150W | Weight: 13.7 lbs | Features: tank capacity of 2.2 quarts, HEPA filter can capture up to 99.99% of particles

First of all, the Shark NV356E S2 Navigator is the best vacuum cleaner for families where allergies and asthma may be a problem. The entire vacuum system is sealed and combined with HEPA filtration, so 99.99% of the particles can be captured-and kept in a vacuum until processing. This alone is essential to minimize allergies and breathing problems. The powerful suction power of Shark is perfect for deep cleaning of all floor surfaces. However, vacuum cleaners with high suction power often drag carpets and carpets, making them difficult to operate. S2 Navigator slides more easily, even during deep cleaning. In addition, it is constructed with an advanced rotary steering system that allows the vacuum to easily rotate for better control.

Strong suction, can deeply clean pet hair and dirt on bare floor or carpet

Fully sealed HEPA filtration system can maintain 99.99% filtration rate

The jar can hold up to 2.2 quarts of dirt

Rotating design, easier to control

Other cleaning heads and accessories can be provided, but additional charges are required

Type: Bagless and corded double-acting vacuum cleaner | Power: 1140W | Weight: 10.23 lbs | Features: two-liter tank, washable and reusable filter, 15-foot power cord

Bissell Zing’s canister vacuum cleaners are a great choice for small homes or apartments. The retractable 15-foot power cord allows you to move around in most medium-sized rooms without having to drag the can around all the time. When the room needs to be changed, the large wheels and integrated handle can easily move the vacuum cleaner. Zing may be small, but it has good suction and cyclone effect, and can collect most of the dirt and debris. Most importantly, the filters are washable, so you don't need to spend a lot of time replacing them.

Portable size and easy to store

It comes with a multi-surface head for exposed floors and carpets, as well as a dust brush and crevice tool

Some complained about scratches on hardwood floors with multi-surface heads

Type: Double-acting, bagless upright and corded vacuum | Power: 960W | Weight: 11 lbs | Features: 10 feet high overhead range, including turbine tool, two-in-one dusting brush and gap tool, three-level adjustment of floor height

When the filter needs to be cleaned or replaced, most vacuum cleaners will start to lose power. Dirt Devil has found a way to circumvent this common problem, promising a maximum loss of 5%, which is almost unnoticed. This is possible because the patented three-stage filtration system of the vacuum model can capture different levels of fine dirt and debris. Keeping Endura Max running well is easy-just press the release button above the trash can to dump the contents of the can. Occasionally remove the foam cover and inner pleated filter, these filters will catch small dirt, and shake them well to remove most of the debris, or if they are particularly dirty, rinse.

The 10-foot overhead stretch is the longest of the models reviewed

The Turbo tool can deep clean and remove dust, pet hair and debris from all surfaces

Even when the suction nozzle is used, the vacuum drum will continue to rotate in place, and it may be damaged if it is left on the carpeted surface

Three-stage replacement filter can be expensive

Finally, choosing a vacuum is about suction. The vacuum cleaner we are looking for has received the most customer reviews for its ability to clean surfaces strongly. Versatility is essential-it can only be done by vacuum cleaners that can double-function by cleaning exposed surfaces such as wood and tiles, as well as carpets or rugs.

Another important factor in our selection of vacuum cleaners on the list is ease of maintenance. Except for Miele, all selected vacuum cleaners are bagless. They are more cost-effective because you don't need to buy vacuum bags on a regular basis. Instead, you just need to put the content in the trash can when you are done. In addition, if the jar (and in many cases, the filter) looks particularly dirty, it can be rinsed.

Other considerations are the ease of vacuum handling and storage. We have chosen a lighter weight vacuum cleaner for better control and provide you with a variety of cordless, corded, handheld, vertical and tank models.

When choosing a vacuum model, consider the most common uses. Can you go up and down the stairs? Is the vacuum cleaner mainly used for carpet floors or hardwood floors? Do you still vacuum crevices, ceilings and interior decorations?

If you are looking for a lightweight vacuum cleaner for quick cleaning and patching of bare floors, then the Bissell Featherweight Stick or Dyson V11 Animal is the easiest to operate. For pet hair or households with allergies, Dyson’s V11 or Shark S2 Navigator provides a high level of filtration that can capture 99.99% of particles.

If the vacuum cleaner is mainly used for carpets, the vertical model is best. Dirt Devil, Shark and Eureka posts can all provide deep cleaning for the furry carpets. For flexible vacuum cleaners that can handle bare floors or carpets and can be easily moved and stored, Miele C1, Bissell Zing or Dyson Animal are all good choices.

You may notice that we did not mention amplifier or motor specifications in our guide to the best vacuum cleaner. This is because greater motor power does not mean that the vacuum cleaner can perform better deep cleaning. The amperage of the vacuum cleaner motor only measures the current, not its performance. The suction power and overall cleaning performance depend on the airflow of the vacuum, which depends on good filtration and the design of the vacuum cleaner.

Technological improvements have made cordless vacuum cleaners as powerful as corded upright vacuum cleaners. However, they still have power limitations. Dyson V11 Animal is a first-class cordless vacuum cleaner with twice the suction power of all competitors. However, the battery can only run for a maximum of 60 minutes, and the time results reported by customers are shorter. In addition, charging may take up to five hours.

If you need a vacuum cleaner that can deeply clean the entire house in an hour or more, a wired vacuum cleaner is still the best choice. For faster cleaning, a cordless vacuum cleaner is easy to operate and may be what you need.

If you are prone to allergies or have other respiratory problems, running a vacuum cleaner will trigger them because it will blow away particles. A sealed vacuum cleaner with HEPA filtration may be the best choice to ensure that you catch dust mites, pet hair, dander, pollen and other allergens without releasing allergens into the air.

Both types of vacuum cleaners can perform deep cleaning of carpets and bare floors, but canister vacuum cleaners are generally easier to control. An upright vacuum cleaner is a device with wheels, which usually can only move in a straight direction. The canister vacuum cleaner consists of a long handle and a cleaning head, which is connected to a canister with wheels. It allows you to move around and roam more freely without having to carry the entire device with you when cleaning.

When you need to clean the floor well, there are not many viable alternatives to vacuum cleaners. Robot vacuum cleaners are helpful, but they also have limitations. They only work on the first floor, which can cause problems if you live in a multi-storey house. Although they are useful, they are best for maintenance and as an accompaniment to a high-quality vacuum-unless you just need a quick scan.
